Three short tones at seconds 57, 58 and 59, and a long tone exactly at second 00 — like a radio time signal.

Measuring…

How do we measure?

Your browser asks our server for its clock several times, with small empty requests — never more than 12.

Each answer carries the server's time to the whole second. By timing the requests around the moment the server's second changes, we find how far your device's clock is from it, to within about half the round-trip time.

The time on this page is corrected by that difference, so it stays exact even when your device's clock is not. Servers normally keep their clocks synchronised with reference time servers over the internet.

Nothing is stored and nothing about you is sent: the requests are empty and go only to our own site.

Set your watch to the second

The practical method

  1. Open the time setting of your clock; the official steps for your model are below.
  2. Set the hour, then set the minutes to the minute that is about to begin.
  3. Watch the seconds on this page or turn on the beep, and press the button that confirms the minutes at the moment of the long tone, at second 00.
